The Celastraceae (staff vine or bittersweet family) is a family of dicot shrubs, trees and lianas. The family consists of more than a thousand species in nearly a hundred genera.
Some members of Celastraceae are of economic importance. Species Celastrus, Euonymus, Maytenus and Paxistima are cultivated as ornamental plants, and Euonymus, Hippocratea and Maytenus have medicinal uses.
