Scrophulariaceae (II)

The figwort family in Belgium:

In this project, we will document the figwort family (Scrophulariaceae). The extension of this family has changed deeply in the last years with many species previously belonging to the Scrophulariaceae having now been transferred to related families. In our Belgian herbarium, we follow an older classification, so that there are plants in this project which are classified under other families according to the most recent plant classifications .

In general, the Scrophulariaceae are herbs with symmetrical flowers. They occur in every continent except Antarctica with a clear focal point in temperate regions. In Belgium, we find species of figwort (Scrophularia) and mullein (Verbascum), among others.
