Ghana features a distinct transition in vegetation: from the drier savannas in the north to the dense, tropical rainforests in the southwest. The forests harbor valuable hardwood species such as mahogany and odum, alongside a wealth of epiphytes and ferns. Coastal regions are lined with extensive mangrove forests that function as vital ecosystems. One of the most economically significant tree species is the shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), which thrives particularly in the northern savannas.
