The Central African Republic (CAR) forms a fascinating ecological transition zone. In the south you will find the dense, humid Congo Basin rainforest, while towards the north this slowly changes into vast tree and shrub savannahs. A special feature of the CAR are the “baïs”: natural clearings in the forest, often rich in minerals, where specific grasses and aquatic plants grow that attract large groups of wildlife. The flora here is very robust and adapted to a clearer dry season than in the coastal countries.
