For most of the 20th century it was a British colony under the name Southern Rhodesia (from 1965 unofficially: Rhodesia). Dense forests are few and far between in Zimbabwe. Only along the border with Mozambique can you find some rainforests. However, the 'Lowfield', which is hotter and drier, has grass-steppe vegetation with occasional semi-desert-like tracts. Victoria Falls are in the far north-west of Zimbabwe, on the border with Zambia, and are about halfway down the length of the Zambezi River.
