The Droseraceae is a family of carnivorous plants.
Of the more than 200 species that occur worldwide, the vast majority belong to the genus sundew (Drosera). Drosera is one of the largest genera of carnivorous plants, and the individual species differ greatly in their specific morphology. This genus catches insects with sticky droplets. The leaves of the Venus flytrap (genus Dionaea) have been modified to close over the prey like a trap.
The name is derived from the Greek word "droseros", meaning "dewy" or "drops of water".
