The Amaryllidaceae are a family of monocotyledonous herbaceous plants. They are mainly perennial and bulbous (rarely rhizomatous) flowering plants. The family is largely tropical to subtropical with the greatest species diversity in South America and Africa. It includes many ornamental garden plants and vegetables.
