Callitrichaceae or water-starwort family is a very small family of one genus (Callitriche) with 25 species.
They are broad-leaved, herbaceous, aquatic, annual plants from cold to tropical regions, with the exception of South Africa.
The name Callitriche is derived from the Greek kallos, beauty, and thrix, hair.
In the phylogenetic classification of APG III (2009), this family is invalid; this genus is included in the family Plantaginaceae.
